Album Review: Keri Hilson - In A Perfect World...

It's been over two years in the making, but singer/songwriter extraordinaire Keri Hilson's debut album is finally seeing the light of day. "In A Perfect World..." is it's title, and in a perfect world, Timbaland would have been just a little more involved with this project. But everybody knows that Tim's attention wanes when the money's not there. Still, it seems that Polow Da Don (with help from others like Danja and Cory Bold) has really taken the reigns and helped bring Keri's dream to fruition. The comparisons to other songstresses are bound to come, but Keri's debut is a worthy one, and proves that she's here to stake her claim in the industry, not just as a celebrated songwriter, but as one of your favorite artists.

Standouts include:
  • Turnin' Me On - Keri's most successful single to date makes excellent use of a guest feature from Lil Wayne, and really showcases her hit-songwriting prowess
  • Knocks You Down - On Keri's next single, she shines with girl-next-door charm in her voice; however, Ne-yo's feature is only adequate, and Kanye seems to just ramble some nonsense
  • Intuition - feels like one of those good, old school Timbaland tracks, and Keri rides it well, with some Tweet-like harmonies thrown in for good measure.
  • Tell Him The Truth - slow-burner... took some time to grow on me, but this song is another very solid one
  • Alienated - By far, this is the album's most interesting song, with a some creative lyrics and some fine Timbaland-like production from superproducer-in-training Cory Bold
J-Graded: B- ... get your copy on March 24th and tell me what you think!
